Madison Avenue and the Video Game











We have learned about differnt types of advertising media(broadcast, print etc.). Placing ads in online video games has become very popular. Read the follow article from Businessweek and answer the questions as comments post.

1. In a video game i would advertise a movie and different cars.
2. I would advertise these in a video game because you can make them look better then they really are being fake in the video game getting people interested.
3. Some demographic characteristics of my audience would be young adults, with a medial income to higher end income.
4. I havent encountered an advertisement in a video game.
5. I dont think advertising in a video game is a good idea because some people will be too interested in the actual game to pay attention to the advertisements and some are just not interested at all.

1) The things that I would advertise in a video game would be computers, food and drinks.
2) I would advertise these things in the video games because many people have that on their mind when they are playing the video games.
3) The deomgraphic characterisitics of my audience would be ages of 9-25.

1. in a video game i would try to advertise the sponsors that helped develope the game.
2. I would advertise these things in the video game because it will also help their company out as well as mine.
3. it would really depend on who likes the kind of games that i make but the video game can be distributed through out the world.
4. I have never encountered an advertisement in a video game becasue i have never played video games.
5. yes becasue then more people will have access to the game and the advertisement will be seen more.

1. I would advertise diffrent clothing brands and different vehicles of different companies. Along with that there would be billboards of many other types of companies.
2. People playing the game will see the ads as they play the game. Also it makes the game seem more realistic. People will see the ads over and over as they play the game.
3. Demographics would be age around 12-21 years old boys that would be playing the video games.
4. I have seen an ad for Dell and their computers in a video game. It was on a billboard on the road that you drove on.
5. Yes I feel it is a good idea becuase people play the games very often or during their free time and they see the ads as they play and they will remember the companies they see as they play the video game.

1. Anything that would appeal to the general market for video games.
2. These items appeal to the people that are playing the video games, so they would see the advertisement as they played. And, advertising in video games is cheaper.
3. Men, moderate income, ages 13 to 30.
4. Yes, several. In EA Sports games like Madden or NCAA Football, they will work an advertisment into something that plays along with the game "broadcast", like a sponsership of a feature of the broadcast.
5. I think it depends. I definitely think it makes a game more realistic, because in the real world we are surrounded by advertisements, but it also takes some of the fun out of the game, because it makes it feel like you are being pressured while you are trying to relax.

1. I would advertise things like new games or mp3 players or phones.

2. I would advertise these things because the people playing these games are obviously high-tech people and would be more open to these products.

3. People all over the world. Both male and female, but leaning more toward male. Teenage to young adult.

4. Yes. In Madden 10 there are a lot of Sprint-sponsered 'stats' during the game.

5. No. When you're focused on a video game your not going to remember those advertisments as much as if you're watching it on TV.

1. I would advertise sports brands, motor vehicles, or anything that relates to the game.
2. I would advertise these things in video games because they relate to many of the types of games that people play. If the products advertised relate to the game, players will be more inclined to purchase them or even get their attention.
3. Some demographics I would focus on are males aged 10-40. This is the age that many men play video games.
4. No, I don't really have time for video games.
5. I think it is ok to advertise in an online game unless the player has to pay for the game and then I don't think there should be advertisements. If they pay they have the right to play the game without any interruptions.

the type of game offered, the features and benefits of the game offered (if there are any physical attributes - ex. wii fit, or any other special features

2. Why would you advertise these things in video games?

I would advertise these things because the customer is purchasing a video game for a reason, and if he is trying to make a decision on which game to choose, specific advertisiments would help make that decision easier.

3. What would probably be some demographic characteristics of your audience?

teenage to middle age, some form of income to purchase the game, and somewhat of personality that suits the purpose of purchasing that particular video game.

4. Have you ever encountered an advertisement in a video game? Describe it.

Wii - on TV, advertising Wii Fit at how the different settings offerd on the game could help impove your balance, health, and overall well being.

5. Do you think advertising in an online video game is a good idea? Explain.

Not unless the advertsing was linked to some form of video game site on the interent, verses random popups that are not very effective.

1. You could advertise anything as long as it fits in the game and is relevant to the target market.

2. Because video games are easier to target torward your target market and many people play them.

4. Yes i was playing madden NFL and they use reebok shoes.

1. The normal things you would put on a billboard or appear in an enviroment in real life are good things to advertise in video games.

2. Video Games are great mediums for advertisements, because they allow developers to change the ads as they see fit, and they also allow the game to dictate what ads the players see.

4. Yes, most companies use in-game billboards that look like real-life billboards. One company even put virtual models of real like cars in the game to drive.

5. Yes, it offers the companies more exposure and data than just tv advertising. As long as the ads aren't annoying and work, then this is a good idea.

1. The types of things i would advertise in a video game are things that the sponsors are advertising, also product that would be of similar use to that particular game.

3. Based on the rating and the age group of the videogame, i would advertise different products in different videogames.

2. It gives them more control of when and how the ad is viewed.

1. I would advertise in a video game the maker of the game if its EA Sports or whoever. Also I would advertise important sponsors in the game for example if its a sports game advertise companies that important to that league.
2. Because it could lead to the those companies receiving more attention and possibily more revenue in the near future eventually.
3. Target predominantly men ages 10 and older because they are ones who purchase most of the video games
4. Yes in NBA Live 10 T-Mobile was featured because it is the official wireless supplier of the NBA.
5. Because all the person has to do is just go to that webpage and subscribe/ follow the directions on what they have to do

1. Anything that would interest the age range of the game. 10-15 year olds= SpongeBob, sunny-d, ect.

2. I want the people who see them to buy them.

3. Snack food eaters, energy drink drinkers, people who need to lose weight but won't exercise.

4. Grand theft auto. it was a billboard add for coke. I shot it with a rocket launcher, but it didn't explode.

5. Yea. Thousands of people play the games, so why not?

1. i would advertise the best features of the game like maybe graphics or realistic features in the game.
2.i would advertise these things because they are the features that would lure in the customers.

4.yes it picture of a dirt bike in the air and it advertised some motocross game.
5. no because if the advertisements popup they just frustrate the customer so they wouldn't pay any attention to the ad.

2. I would advertise these things because most video games are played by younger kids, and most are males.

4. Yes, I cant remember the video game but I remember that the cell phone that I used in the game was a certain brand of phone that was popular back in the day.
5.Yes, I do, because the user can play it at anytime, and see the ad at anytime. It also makes the game seem more realistic.

1. Video games are dominated by young males, so any product that young men might want such as cars or sports.
2. Because video games have started to have a major influence on teenagers and even younger kids.

4. Yes, I have seen soda advertisements in madden games that were on the side of the stadium
5. Yes to a point, it shouldn't be a primary advertisement objective for a company but it can certainly help a little with sales.

4. Yes, I have encountered an ad in a video game. It was in a racing game and had a billboard with Coca-Cola on it.

1. I would advertise the graphics of the game and what it is mainly about while keeping the viewer interested in the product. You can tell them things but if you bore them they wont buy.
2. I would want to inform the reader, but keep them interested to make a better chance of a sale and to keep people interested.
3. The type of people i would market to is people who like video games and mostly teens. Teens but the most video games and want the games. If a parent buys the game it might not be for them so i would have to mkarket toward who would play the game.
4. Yes I have it was with the game Jak 3. The ad was very persuasive and had good graphics. It was exciting andf made me want to play the game even more so I got it earlier than i thought i would.
5. I believe it is a good idea because when people see an ad and they like what they see there is a better chance of buying than justs eeeing the game in the store and hoping the graphics and gameplay are good.

1. I would advertise the players or the teams in a baseball game for an example or the awesome cars in a racing car game.
2. Because it's drawing attention to the customers who after watching the commercial might want to then buy the game and play.
3. Talking about how cool the game is including it's features and benefits such as have 1-4 players and what type of cars their are.
4. Yes because it's making me want to go to the store and buy the game.
5. I would say no because you are just playing the game online and if you have the game for an xbox 360 or what ever station then you can have a warranty on the game and console.
