Stadium Security

Read the security policies below from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. This is were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play and where the Outback Bowl is played. The listed security is tight and there are things going on behind the scenes that involve high tech equipment. Answer the questions as comment posts.

Stadium Policies

Safety and security for our guests, employees, entertainers and players have always been our number one concern. We want all people entering the venue to be confident that measures have been taken to secure their environment. The Outback Bowl and Tampa Sports Authority will implement and reinforce several security measures for the game. Numerous measures will be obvious to fans while some other measures will not be made public in order to maintain their effectiveness.
The Tampa Sports Authority, managers of Raymond James Stadium, is known throughout the sports industry as security innovators. Having created the first ever stadium disaster/evacuation/ emergency plan, the staff is trained in preparing for difficult security situations. Additionally, the staff has received plaudits through their work with the National Football League in hosting three successful Super Bowls since 1984, particularly Super Bowl XXV held during the Gulf War without incident.
For major events such as the Outback Bowl the stadium security deployment includes more than 600 personnel representing the Hillsborough County Sheriff Dept., Tampa Police Dept., Florida Highway Patrol, Emergency Medical Services and private security. The staff also work closely with federal agencies such as the FBI and FAA.
In addition to the 24 hour security that is always in place at the stadium, vehicles and personnel will under go daily searches in the days leading up to and including the game. Everyone and everything is subject to inspection and search (this includes vehicles, coaches, media, entertainers, employees, fans, and personal belongings - no exceptions). In the unlikely event of cold weather guests will be asked to unbutton/unzip jackets or remove/raise heavy sweaters for visual security inspection.
Some of the security measures are sure to cause delays upon entering the parking lots and stadium, therefore we ask for the patience and full cooperation of all guests attending the game, and request their respect for the policies and the personnel enforcing them.

1. I do think it's necessary to have all of this security. People need to be kept safe.
2. I think it's fair because if someone gets killed at the stadium the family could sue saying it's the stadiums fault for not having better security.
3. I think its right because anyone could sneak a bomb or something in their car killing and injuring several people.

1. I think it is necissary, people need to be safe and keep the fans in the stadium safe from any possible threat.

2.I think this is fair because you are paying for the security, and it is worth alot to keep you and your family safe.

3.I think it should only be allowed with probable cause. I dont think that they should be able to search your property for no reason.

1. In your opinion do you think all of this security is necessary? Explain.
Yes. If they don't take these precautions things could get out of hand and unsafe for the players, employees, or other patrons.

2. Do you think it is fair that the cost of this security is built into the price of your ticket? Explain.
Yes because they are providing security for you therefore you should contribute to the cost of paying the security.

3. Do think it is right that these venues can search your personal property to see if you have anything deemed unsafe? Explain.
Yes it is their personal property. It is the same as students being subject to search on school property.

1. I think that all of this security is very neccessary becasue it helps keep people in order and helps protect the players, fans, and employees.

2. I think it is fair because when people pay for tickets they are not only paying for the game they are paying to be protected incase anything happens.

3. I think that is right because if not someone could bring something very dangerous into the stadium.

John Crumpler said...

1) All the security is necessary to ensure a fun safe enviorment for players and fans alike.

2)The security in the ticket isnt a big amount but without it fights and other incidents may go unattended and fans and players can get seriously injured.

3)Once you go into their facilities they should have the right to tell you what you can and cant have and searching is just necessary in finding prohibited items.

Matt T said...

1. I think in this situation that players and fans need to be safe so there should be percautions.
2. yes because they are there to keep you safe.
3. yes because thy are trying to keep everyone safe.

1) Yes, I do believe all of this security is necessary, if only because of the sheer number of people entering the stadium. Among these people can be anyone, terrorists, etc. that can cause trouble and with so many people the venue is liable for, security is extremely important.
2) Yes, I do think it is fair that security costs are incorporated into the ticket cost. Security keeps fans safe, and they are paying not only to watch the game, but to do so in a safe atmosphere.
3) Since these venues are private property, they should be allowed to do whatever they feel is necessary to ensure the safety of their fans.

Jay Hayne said...

1. I think that all of this securtiy is necessary because without it there is a good chance that somebody would get hurt.
2. I think that it is fair that the cost of securtiy is built into your ticket because other wise most people wouldn't pay for it.
3. I think that it is right that these venues can search your personal property to see if you have anything unsafe because they do it for your own safety.

Dan Nista said...

1. I don't think all this security is necessary, i think there should be enough security to make sure everything is going well but not to over do it.
2. I do not think so because your tickets will be very expensive mainly because of how much security is there and that much protection isnt necessary, so your losing money.
3. I think it's fair if they have proabale cause and they think something is going on but if they just search you for no reason then thats not fair at all.

Andrew Murrell said...

1. Yes, there are a lot of people and it can get out of control easily.
2. Yes, it is for your own safety.
3. Yes, once agian it is for your own safety, and a lot of people could get killed if a person brings something dangerous in the stadium.

Preston Long said...

1.) Yes, I do think that it is necessary because the players that are playing there are very high profile, as well as artists doing concerts. This couls be a cause for concern, so I think having all of these precations are important.

2.) Yes I do because in a way, you want to be safe while watching the game. I have no problem with it because I would rather pay a few more dollars and be safe that save the money, and not feel secure.

3.) I think it is ok if they search everyone, not just target a specific group of people. That could bring some major law suits. Just make sure it is fair

Alann Kragnes said...

1. In your opinion do you think all of this security is necessary? Explain.
- No, because people want to be able to be free and have fun and do what they want to do inside of the stadium but with definate limitations but some of the things not allowed in the stadium such as an umbrella is pretty over the top. what happens if it starts raining?

2. Do you think it is fair that the cost of this security is built into the price of your ticket? Explain.
- Yes, because the company needs to pay for security and have people to keep things orderly and safe.

3. Do think it is right that these venues can search your personal property to see if you have anything deemed unsafe? Explain.
- Yes, because it is a priviledge to go to the stadium and they do not want any fans bringing in guns or other things to try and hurt other fans or players.

Brian Butler said...

1. In my opinion, the security of the stadium should be whatever that stadium staff feels necessary to protect their players as well as their athletes.

2. However, I do not agree with the organization charging fans through ticket prices to amp security. If the stadium feels like extra security should be implemented, then they should fund it themselves.

3. I believe that searching property is fair as long as they are doing so when you are entering their stadium. However, I do not believe that freedom to search peoples belongings without probable cause is justifiable.

Danielle Cooper said...

1. Some of the security things seem a little extensive but I guess they are all necessary to keep everyone safe.
2. It is fair because unless you want to by unsafe then you should pay to contribute to your own safety. If it wasn't included then there would be less safety. The security is not just to protect the athletes and coaches but also the fans.
3. yes, you are about to enter property that isn't yours so they become liable for whatever happens in the stadium. If it wasn't important then they wouldn't ask you to do something.

Zach Hayden said...

1. i think it is necessary for some stadiums and places because they see a lot of this behavior and it is necessary to keep all of the people safe and out of danger.

2. i guess it is fair because there is no other way of paying for it and you have to pay to keep your self and whoever you are with safe so i think its fine.

3. i think they should be able to search them if they are on you and you try to walk in the game with it but if its in your car and you leave it there then i dont think they should be allowed to check it.

Taylor Grant said...

1.) Yes, i think all of the security is necessary becuase of the amount of people attending. It does not hurt to be strict with security but it can hurt of there is not enough security. Better safe than sorry. High end security also makes the fans feel better protected.
2.)I think is it fair because there is really no other way of paying for it and you have to keep you and whomever your taking safe.
3.)Yes I think it is right because you should have nothing to hide.Searching keeps everyone safe and its not like their going to take anything from you unless its unsafe.

edgar p said...

1. because they can prevent big disastrous things to happen.
2. yes, because you are being protected.
3. yes, because you dont know whos going into those events and its nice for you to feel safe.

1. Yes because you have to keep the players safe because thats why people come to games and you have to keep the fans safe cause they're the ones paying
2. Yes because if there is no security is wouldn't be safe
3. Yes but only if they have a reason to

Taylor Verdi said...

1. yes becuase it will be safer if you have more sercurity and the people will feel safe.
2. Yeah i think its fair becuase people want to feel safe so they should pay for it a little.
3. Yes because someone might have a gun or a knife and plan on hurting someone.

Connor Shaw said...

1. Yes I think the security is necessary becuase it protects the people from harm or other bad things.
2. Yes I think that is fair becuase it the people should pay to be protected.
3. Yes becuase this is just another thing that is protecting the people in the venue from harm.

1. i do think all of this secrity is worth it because all these terms are to keep people safe and companies safe also, from law suits. So think that it is totally appoproiate for all of these saftey measues to be affective.
2. Yes because evrything else is and I if thats what needs to be donefor secrity to be paid than i totally agree because I would like to be safe.
3. Yes, because if someone next to be had a gun then I would want that to be checked.

taylor harrison said...

3. yes because when you pay for security that is part of the seecurity.

Hunter Davis said...

1. I think that some of it is necessary and some of it just ruins the fans experience of the game.
2. Yes because if you are going to the game you are expecting to be safe. If you have to pay a little extra to insure your safety it should be fine.
3. Yes, they are trying to help keep their area safe and if that means searching through your stuff then they should be allowed to do that.

Matt Nance said...

1. Yes i think all this security is necessary because it protects the stadium its athletes and all the fans.

2. Yes probally over time maybe $5 per ticket over a season will pay ot main and upgrade security and im sure people will pay the extra $5 to have that feeling of secuirty and safety

3.Yes once again it is protecting the greater good of everyone in the stadium and why would you have a problem with it unless you have something to hide.

joelle deese said...

1)yes because it will keep all the people in the stadium safe and it wont be as harmful if they follow all the rules.
2)yes because you are paying to go watch a game you should also have to be responsible for your safety and that includes this.
3)yes because they dont wont anything harmful in a stadium if they can prevent it.

Kaitlin Walker said...

1. Yes all the security is necessary because there are hundreds of thousands of people in the stadium and by having all this security, it will keep everything under control.
2. Yes because people would be very upset if the stadium was unsafe and people wouldnt come. So they are kind of in a way paying for their own safety.
3. Yes because if you are suspicious then its better to be safe than sorry and if you dont have anything to hide then you wont be upset about being searched.

joelle deese said...

1. Yes I beleive that stadiums must take the up most attention to detail when dealing with things such as security, it is very important in my opinion.

2. Yes because the security is protecting the people in the stadium and most of the people in the stadium are fans, so therefore you should have to pay for your security.

3. Its perfectly fine in my opinion, you are entering an area with a lot of people and they just want to make sure that you dont have any objects that may cause harm to others.

malik said...

1.Yes because you could use all the security you need.
2.No because we shouldnt have to pay for the security that they offer.

1. I do beleive all the security is necessary because of the large number of people the stadium is responsible for.

2. I do think it's fair that the cost of security is built into the price of the ticket because it is for the benefit of the fans.

3. I do think it is right the venue can search my personal property for anything deemed unsafe because if someone else had a weapon in their persoanl property I would want security to find it.

Kierstyn Drum said...

1. i think that the unneccesary things like no umbrellas, backpacks, lunch boxes, and camera lenses should be taken out. I think you should be allowed to have those things if they're cleared by security.
2. I think it's fair because we are paying them to keep us safe at games and concerts.
3. I would rather have someone check by bags than not and have someone shoot up the whole stadium. Also you know you're going through security so why pack anything that you know will need to be removed.

Yamen Damreh said...

1. I always think that you can never have enough security in one place.
2. Yes i think it is fair because they are looking out for our safety.

1. yes the security is necessary to keep the players and fans safe.

2. Yes because you’re getting something out of the security

3. Yes because the safety of the players depends on what the people bring in so yes I think it is valid

Kyle Brown said...

1. Most of these security measure are understandably necessary, however, there are a few that aren't fair; ponchos/blankets, and especially seat cushions.

2. Actually yes, I believe it's fair. Because I'm spending money to have a good time, not deal with aggravating people, situations. I am trusting the safety & security of the event with my purchase.

3. I feel it IS right, because too many things can be smuggled in anymore; weapons, bombs, drugs, etc... So I believe it's fair for a search if they feel it is necessary.

Blake Norris said...

1. Yes i feel like security needs to be one of the most important things for events. If something goes wrong you cant have random people getting hurt.

2. No because you are not going to the stadium to watch the security play your going to watch the team play.

3. It kind of seems wrong, but for everyones safety i think you may be able to.

Megan Gleason said...

1. The security in the stadium is pretty good, just some of them seem a little extreme like no jogging and running, like what if there is an emergency, running and jogging wouldn't hurt anything.
2. It seems fair because that means that you trust the security to be good.
3. No because they are going against personal privacy, unless they have papers saying they can look through their belongings, then no.

Troy Athan said...

1. Yes because if they didnt have security the statiums could be robbed or blown up
2. Yes because the people want a fun and safe environment to watch a football game
3. Yes because they dont want to be reasponsible for if any thing happens
