Apex Bojangles High School???

Read the small excerpt below  from a WRAL article and answer the questions as comment posts.

Selling naming rights could help generate Wake schools funds

At least one Wake County school board member thinks the school system should look at selling the naming rights at high school stadiums to help with school funding.

The public school system is looking at $80 million less in funding for the upcoming school year, because of low revenue and state-mandated budget cuts.

Finding companies willing to pay for exposure at high school sporting events is one option officials should consider, board member Keith Sutton said Thursday.

The school board did discuss the idea in 2003 but never decided on the matter.
School system spokesman Michael Evans said Thursday that given the current financial situation of the school system, every idea is worth considering.

"But we need to do the due diligence to have the information for the (board members) so they can make an informed decision, and that's what we're doing right now," Evans said.
Sutton said he believes stadium sponsorships could be a win-win for every party involved as many companies are scaling back advertising revenue.

"We can offer, perhaps, a better bang for their buck and give them more exposure for smaller dollars," he said

1)They would be endorsers because they are just helping out something that already exists.

2)The name of the field would not bother me and if it brought the school more money that would be good.

3)I think it is ethical because they pay taxes as well in the community.

4)I think Mcdonalds would be good because they already sponsor things at our school.

1. Would the companies that agreed to do this be sponsors or endorsers? Explain your answer.
Endorser because they would be paying the school to get more advertising through them.

2. How would you feel about Apex high school's football field being named Taco Bell Field? Explain.
I would not like the football field being call Taco Bell stadium because I don't like Taco Bell they use dog food in their tacos.

3. Do you think this is an ethical thing to do since schools are paid with public tax dollars? Explain.
Yes because buinesses are part of the community and also pay taxes, so if they wish to endorse at schools that would not be unethical.

4. Who do you think would be a good corporate/business to sell the naming rights to Apex high athletic fields to? Explain.
Bojangles because every student at Apex High loves Bo's and Bo's is representative of the south and so is Apex.

Philip Boynton said...

1. Sponsorship, because they are giving money to the school
2. I wouldnt really care but some people might.
3. Yeah it could be benefitial for the school.
4. Probably bojangles because the students go there alot and spend alot of their money there.

Colby Anderson said...

1. The companies buying naming rights to the high schools would be sponsors since it is just naming rights to a stadium or school.

2. It wouldn't change a thing to me.

3. Yes, since the schools need more money it is ok to do, instead of using more tax dollars to help pay.

4. I have no idea in mind but A company that has a good image and has been a main sponsor of the school for a while would be good.

austen lah said...

1) sponsors, because they could just put a few ads around the school.

2) I wouldnt mind. i dont go to the games that much

3) i dont think it matters

4) Gatorade- they promote being athletic

Austin Pisacane said...

1. they would be sponsors because they are buying naming rights which means there a sponsor.
2. If Apewx highs football field was named taco beel field then taht would be awesome because now every school has to come play on our taco bell field. not just the apex high field.
3. I think this is not ethical because tax dollars already pay for public schools and for everything in teh schools. Getting other sources of money would not be okay.
4. I think a good company to sell the naming rights to for apex high athletics fields is something like John Deere or a landscaping company. This is because it could mean that we could get machines that help mintain the fields conditions.

Jay Hayne said...

1. They would be endorsers because they would pay the school for the naming rights
2. I would not really care if apex high schools football field was named Taco Bell Football field, but I guess it would be good since it makes the school money.
3. I think that it is an ethical thing to do because the schools need to get more money.
4. I think that Bojangles would be a good business to sell the naming rights to Apex High Schools fields because a lot of students go there.

James Stevens said...

1. Companies that agree to do this would be sponsors. This is because they are purchasing rights.
2. I would think that the football field being named the "taco bell field" would be pretty cool because its a big name brand to a local school.
3.I think it is perfectly ethical simply because we lost so much money for schools and eduaction that any form of money through sponsorships is fine.
4. I think a good corperation or buisness to sell the naming rights to for apex's field would be a school supply company or a buisness that directly helps the school like Staples or Office Max.

Valery Calderon said...

1.They would be sponsors because they would provide the money the school system needs.
2. I would feel a little different maybe a different company name would sound so much better.
3.It could be at a time were there are hardships and struggles any option is really possible.
4.Personally I think McDonalds would be an excellent company. They are international and are doing more than fine financially. They could really give us an extra buck and it sounds more natural McDonalds football field.

Emily Roden said...

1. The company would be a sponsors because they are purchasing.

2. I would not really like it if it was named Taco Bell Field because Taco Bell is gross and are football stadium should be named after something better.

3.I think it is fine if they want to sell the naming rights but it just needs to be a good name/company. If they do sell the nameing rights it would probably lower the public tax dollars because there would be more money in the system.

4. I think that a good comapy to name Apex High School football stadium after would be like Johyn Deer, Dicks sporting goods, chevy, ect. Real american companies.

Brian Furtado said...

1.a sponsor, because they are purchasing from them.

2.i wouldnt like it very much because the football field should have to do with the SCHOOL

3. the whole part about selling the naming rights is straight but they should work with the school and come up with a name that everyone is happy with. some parents would get mad if thats what their tax dollars were going too.

4.A good business to sell the naming right apex would be Toyota.
They are right by the school and make good money. it would be a good thing to have them as.

Cooper Grissom said...

1) The companies that agreed to this would be considered sponsors, because they are paying the schools for the rights to advertise their companies, instead of endorsing the teams.
2) If it means better school conditions all around, I would be perfectly ok with "Taco Bell Field." But if the money generated from the sponsorship just buried itself and nothing good came out of it, then I wouldn't approve.
3) If schools are not receiving the amount of money they need to run correctly from the state, then I believe it is only logical that they look at other options for funding.
4) I think almost any business that is located in the area would be a good choice to sell the naming rights to, especially one that is popular with the students, faculty or parents.

Laura Wright said...

1. Yes, the students tend to buy from companies they like and know. They also influence parents where to shop.
2. It doesn't really matter to me what it's called.
3. I think it's a good idea because schools need money to continue to educate students, and offer programs.
4. I think a good buisness would be an athletic/sports shop. It would create more business for the company and make more sense, rather than a fast food name.

Josue Soto said...

1. The companies buying naming rights would be sponsors because the stadium is just being named after them.
2. I wouldn't like it but if it helps the school financially it would be ok. Its just a name anyways.
3. A company buying naming rights brings in more money for the school so it shouldnt be much of a problem.
4. Gatorade because it is a sports drink and they promote active lives and since all who will see the stadium are at the sporting event, why not promote then.

Andrew Murrell said...

1. It would be a sponsor, they are paying the school to advertise their name.
2. I would be fine with that, it is just a name.
3. Yes, I think it is alright, the schools have plenty of room for improvement.
4. Any of them that are close by.

Zach Hayden said...

1. they would be considered sponsors because they are paying for the advertisement and the stadium facilities.

2. im not really sure because it sounds kind of stupid but if it made more money for the school and made it better i wouldnt really care.

3. yea i do not see any ethical problems with it because the school is only trying to get more money to put back into its athletic programs.

4. i think that johnson lamb would be a great sponsor because they know sports and a lot of the teams are familiar with them already. plus we already purchase multiple things from them.

Troy Athan said...

1. sponsors because they would be sponsoring the stadium
2. i would not care if the stadium was called taco bell stadium as long as we could have the money to make the school better
3. no i dont think it is ethical because they will probably raise the taxes but we could spend it on stuff we need for the school

Nick D. said...

1.The companies that agreed to this would be sponsors because they pay us money so they can put their logo on stadiums and other places they can advertise their company.
2.I wouldn't have a problem with it because we get more money and we can benefit from having more money.
3.I think it is ethical since more money would mean a better education for children and thats what parents really want.
4.I think we should sell it to Bojangles becasue everyone goes there and they could benefit from it and we could benefit from it too.

Taylor Grant said...

1.)The companys would be concidered sponsors because they are paying the school for the right to advertise their companies.
2.)It would sound kind of funny but it would be fine.
3.)If schools are not recieving the proper amount of money to fund the school, then I dont think it is a problem.
4.)Any buisiness that is located in the area would be fine. Maybe local resuarant like Bo's or Taco Bell.

Matt T said...

1. They would be sponsors because they would be sponsoring the stadium.
2. If it was getting us extra funding i would be ok with it.
3. Yes ithink if it can help the school then its a good idea.
4. I think maybe a taco bell or bojangles would be a good idea because they are right across the street.

Brian Butler said...

1. A school that desided to buy into this idea would be a sponsor because they would be paying the school board for naming rights of the school stadium which creates exposure for their company.

2. I wouldn't mind the name change of our football stadium because all of the budget cuts in schools is crippling the way that teachers present their material in the classroom; not being able to purchase new text books and things like that.

3. I do think that this is ethical because any bit of money going to the school would help.

4. I think that a more respected company would be more suited for the naming riht of a high school field. A company like Taco Bell doesn't really have a rep that would be proper to represent a high school.

Preston Long said...

1.) The companies that would be agreeing to give money would be sponsors because they are not promoting Apex through their business, Apex is advertising the company through the school.

2.) I wouldn't really have a problem with our stadium being renamed. It shouldn't matter what it is called as long as Apex still is in charge. It is no different than in Professional Sports.

3.) I think it is eithical because it is actually helping the taxpayers because it is taking the burden off of them. It is bringing in more money into the school with out inceasing tax rates.

4.) I think that an appropriate company to sell the naming rights to would be someone like a Bojangles that is well thought of in the community and that is frequently visited by people coming to Apex High School.

Danielle Cooper said...

1. The companies that agree to do this would be sponsors. A sponsor is a person, organization, or business that gives money or donates products and services in order to promote their business in associtation with a team or event.
2. I wouldn't matter to much to me because we don't really call it buy its name anyway. Though we would lose the identity of the school with the name change its not a big deal.
3. Yes, its either rename the feild which isn't a big deal, or have to make mmajor cuts in the education of kids. I think this type of "fund raising" would be good for schools.
4. We would probably want to sell the naming rights to a business that has the same ethics and goals that the high school does. It would have to be a respectible company because we are a public school. Naming it after a fast food resturant wouldn't be the best thing but there could be a lot worse. Maybe a car company or a large corporation such as SAS or Wake Med would be the best. These companies are highly respected and do great work.

Katie Wight said...

1.I think these companies would be sponsors because they would be almost perminantl a part of the statium.
2.I would think that that sounds very tacky and unnecessary. I think we should stay Cougar Statium.
3. No, I think that we would just be putting tax dollars that we could spend elsewhere into places like Bojangles and Taco Bell unreasonably.
4. I think a buisiness like Chick-fil-a would be a good sponsor because they are traditionally a very trustworthy, loyal company.

Jordyn barham said...

1. Sponsors because they are helping out
2. I would like it because i think it will give off the wrong idea to the fans.
3. Yes because its a win win ithe both the school and the business
4. Jersey mikes because almost everyone knows who tey are and they arent a bad image.

Alann Kragnes said...

-Its an endorsment because they are paying the school to put advertise their name.

2. How would you feel about Apex high school's football field being named Taco Bell Field? Explain.
-I would not like it because it wouldnt be known for our field it would be known for taco bell field.

3. Do you think this is an ethical thing to do since schools are paid with public tax dollars? Explain.

Yes, because the schools have room for improvement.

4. Who do you think would be a good corporate/business to sell the naming rights to Apex high athletic fields to? Explain.

Any business that is close by like bojangles because we give them the most service and it would make sense to.

taylor harrison said...

1. they would be sponsors because they are paying to help support the schools.
2. i think that sounds pretty bad but if it makes the school money then its worth it.
3. yes because it will give taco bell more exposure and help pay for students education.
4. because companies know how many students and parents see all of the apex fields when there are games so they would be interest in paying to have these people know about their product.

Lev Fershteyn said...

1. The companies that would do this would be sponsors because they are not trying to promote the school as endorsers.

2. I wouldn't really care what they named it personally, especially if it helped with school funding.

3. I don't see why this is unethical, school funding is terrible right now, and being sponsored by a fast food chain could help.

4. I would think that a car company wouldn't be bad, as most high schoolers end up buying a car, and there are a lot of dealerships up the street.

Kaitlin Walker said...

1. Sponsors because they would be putting money into the school while getting their name advertised around the school.
2. I would not really care what the field name is, it doesn't make any difference to me a field is a field.
3. Yes i think that they should be allowed to do this because the budget cuts are only hurting the students.
4. Bojangles would be good because it is right across the street and it would get a lot of kids going to it.

Taylor Davis said...

1. The companies would be sponsors because they put their name on a place.

2. It wouldn't bother me if Apex high school's football field was named Taco Bell Field.

3. I do think it is an eithical thing to do, schools accept sponsorships and donations now it would just be on a larger scale.

4. I think it would be a good idea to sell to Taco Bell or Bojangles because they're right near the school.

matt nance said...

1. Endorsers because they put there money into the staduim and get the naming rights to it.

2. I think it would sound really dumb but if it generated money to buy better equipment and imrpove the school i wouldnt mind.

3. If the company wants to endorse the school then they should be able but it doesnt seem ethical in a moral sense.

4. A Popular besiness that kids would accuatlly go to and buy their products im not sure tough though specifically.

Kierstyn Drum said...

1. The company would be endorsers because they would be putting money into the idea.
2. I think the football field being named Taco Bell Field would be kind of wierd because it has no relation to Apex High, other than across the street.
3. I think that the tax payers should have a say in it since they do pay for the school.
4. I think Bojangles would be a good business to sell the naming right to because everyone knows what Bojangles is and mostly everyone enjoys Bo's.

brett mcmillan said...

1 the companys that agreed to do this would be sponsors

3.yes because schools have fundraisers to make money why cant they do this?
4. nike or reebok because they are both associated with sports.

Connor Shaw said...

1. Yes, because they will see that the company has a role in the community so people will like the company.
2. As long as people are allowed to play on the field, I don't really care what the field is called.
3. Yes, because this will help with the school funding and will take a load off the school system.
4. I think it would be good becuase it would get the name of the business out there to whoever goes to the field.

John Kanady said...

1. The companies would be sponsors because they are paying the school system for their advertising
2. I would not like the field being called taco bell field but Bo jangles would be fine.
3. I think so because we are short money our budget must be scaled back and this would give the students a better education.
4.A good company would be a local company maybe walmart even though it is a national franchise.

Yamen Damreh said...

1. The companies that agreed would be sponsors.
2. I would not like that because im not a fan of taco bell and i would rather have it say Apex Football.
3. No i dont think it is a ethical thing to do because taco bell is not the only tax payer, there are 100s of 1000s of people who pay but not all of them can have what they want.
4. i think that it would be good to sell the naming rights to Nike.

Taylor Verdi said...

1. the companies that agrred to do this would be the sponsors.
2.Um i wouldnt like that beacause is sounds stupid and people are just going to laugh at it.
3.yeah becuase we can just have fundraisers.
4.under armor becuase they deal will all types of athletic wear and equipment.

Dershowitz said...

1. Sponsors because they are showng off their company at a sporting event.
2. I wouldn't be happy about it because the name is important to the team and others in the school.
3. No because some may argue that is it a waste of their tax dollars.
4. Chick-fil-a because they have very strong moral and ethical values.

malik said...

1.yes because the sponsers and endorsers actually put effort in to product.
2.I wouldent mind because taco bell could be reprsenting us and everyone loves taco bell.
3.yes because the government wants it to happen an we cant do anything about it.
4.?

1. The companies would be considered sponsors because they are paying money to have their name advertised with the school.
2. I think it would be exciting to the school to have our football field named after a fast food restraunt.
3. I feel that this is ethical because they can do different fundraisers to earn this money.
4. A local business such as bojangles would be perfect to sell the naming rights to.

3. I dont really think its that big of a deal as long as the stadium is still nice and clean.
4. i would say Dicks Sporting Goods because its an thletic store and its also extremely popular.

Zain Goheer said...

1. Sponsors because they are selling naming rights not saying that they like using the product
2. I wouldn't really care but it would sound kind of weird
3. No because tax money paid for the stadium so the people that paid for it should get to decide if it gets renamed
4. Bojangles because its right across the street from the school and a lot of people go there

2)I wouldnt like it because that name is ugly.
3)yes i do because fast food places make so much money and if they want to help schools then they should be allowed to.
4)Bojangles because there is one close to the school and many people enjoy eating there and go there a lot so it would also be goot advertising for them since it is so close.

1. Sponsors because the school board is saying that Bojangles should have their name within Apex High for their sports.
2. It wouldn't be such a good idea. Yes, a lot of Apex students go to Taco Bell for lunch on a daily basis, but that doesn't exactly mean that the school should name a school stadium after a chain restaurant.
3. Partially because yes we can get bojangles to sponsor us, but not getting to a point to where we are considering naming our stadium after a chain restaurant that seems to be such a popular place for lunch daily.
4. For money wise yes, but no for the fact that it wouldn't be appealing to have a high school stadium to have a fast food restaurants name in it.

2. I would'nt really care honestly, as long as our team was actually good again.

3. I think it's fine, because our school system is going through such heavy budget cuts, I think anything okay as long as they raise enought money.

4. I think Bojangles would be a good sponsor/ endorser, because its one of the most used Bojangles in the country, and one of the most popular restaurants in the Apex area.

1. The companies would be the sponsors because they would be paying for their name to be spread through the school.

2. Personally, I think it'd be pretty cool. Sounds more professional & organized instead of whatever the name of the field is now... (it's not easily memorized)

3. I believe in a world of business, not many things are about being ethical. It's all about who's making what money and how much for how long. That's the way it will always be, as sad and hectic as it is.

4. A good business should either be Bojangles, or Jersey Mikes because so many of us Apex High students go to these places for breakfast, lunch, etc... so it's seems to be a fair & wisely spent business move.

1. the companies I think would be sponsors becuase they are putting their name to something nnot endorsing a product.
2. I think that it would be cool to have a field named Taco bell field a people would probaly go to Taco Bell after game just because the stadium is called taco bell stadium.
3. Well those public tax dollars are being cut from our school system and going other places. People cannot pay their bills so why can't a company sponsor a school stadium. It will only benefit the schools with well needed money.
4. Maybe a sport's store like Dick's or Omega sports. I also think taco bell or bojangles would get a good response from the school's student body.
